Personality:
The initial impression that Freyja leaves on people is a simple one: she's weird, spirited, and totally unashamed of who she is and what she loves to do. It's immediately apparent due to how she almost literally wears her heart on her sleeve. She's loud and has a lot of feelings, all of which tend to be obvious due to the rune on her head and how it changes color depending on her mood - like her own little mood ring. Even when she does try to hide what she’s feeling, she rarely succeeds due to how apparent her emotions tend to be. Most Windermereans have a lot more control over what their rune displays to the world than she does simply because they tend to reign their feelings in a lot better than she does.
To go along with all of that, though, Freyja is also brave, confident, and reckless to a fault. The finale of the first movie does involve her jumping off a ship and falling fearlessly through the sky, after all, purely because she thought it was the best way to reach her friend in his time of need. She doesn’t often think about herself, actually, and has a tendency to put the needs of others before her own because she desperately wants others to be happy and she needs them to understand how much she loves them, regardless of whether she’s actually met them or not. She has said multiple times that her ultimate goal is for her song to reach every corner of the galaxy! Freyja thinks that if they could hear and feel how she feels when singing, they’d stop and be happy, and that it might lead to no more wars. It’s an exceedingly idealistic way of thinking, but the thought does matter.
Expanding on her recklessness, it’s important to note that Windermereans have incredibly short lives. Few live to be older than thirty, and Freyja is not likely to be an exception to the rule. Because of this, she takes every opportunity she’s given and tries to make the best of it! If she sees a chance, she takes it and does her best to see it through, because she knows that it’s not likely she’ll get another chance to do so. She doesn’t have the luxury of just waiting for it to happen again, as a general rule, and lives like every day is her last. It’s an incredibly pure enjoyment of life for what it is, ultimately. It's not until a local priest from her home planet dies that she stops to think about what life means, though, and what she wants her life to mean. In the end, she chooses to sacrifice herself for the greater good and makes a point to sing until her body simply cannot anymore. It's a difficult lesson for her to learn and agonize over, but when she finally decides that the galaxy is worth her life, she sacrifices herself to ensure that the galaxy can continue on.
Another thing to note about Freyja is that she’s incredibly determined, hardheaded, and stubborn, even if it may come at the cost of her own life. Along with Freyja’s lifespan being naturally short, it’s important to say that they can also just straight up burn it out sooner by overusing their abilities. If burning herself out means that the galaxy at large can be safe and happy, she’s fine with doing that. There’s so much for her to experience, and she wants to experience it, but she will never place herself above others. When she decides she wants to do something, she’ll do it, no ifs, ands, or buts. She even goes so far as to defy and break out of a galactic hivemind because she knows that the situation isn't right, and singlehandedly works to break her fellow groupmates and pilots out of the hivemind as well using her song. She won't accept perceived wrongs and will defy the odds to make sure everyone can be happy and safe.
Despite the front that Freyja does put on though, she is just a teenage girl in the end. She’s only fifteen, and while that easily makes her middle-aged on Windermere, that doesn’t change the fact that she only really has the maturity of a normal teenager. She is still incredibly capable of carrying out her responsibilities despite whatever she may be feeling at the time! But she still has doubts and gets nervous about things like love, and confessing can be difficult for her because of this. She gets flustered about perceived perverted things even if there’s nothing going on. Some bumps in the road can get to her more than she cares to let on sometimes too, but she tries to power on through those like they weren’t ever an issue to begin with.
